Flower Child Cafe is an urban oasis amid busy shopping centre.
Surrounded by lush greenery and overflowing foliage, one thing’s for sure, Flower Child Cafe is bloomin’ beautiful.
Perhaps what’s most surprising about this lush little lunch spot is its unlikely location, not on an urban farm but in a Westfield mall.
Forget the food court, tired shoppers can rest and recoup with a lychee and mint smoothie or French eclair before hitting the sales again.
“We hope it offers a little escapism for weary shoppers,” says Chris Lu, who owns the cafe with his partner Adam Choker.

The venue itself is like an indoor greenhouse, made from green steel framework with panels of old-fashioned frosted glass.
Inside you’ll find wicker chairs, tiled floors and a ceiling of hanging baskets, with fronds and foliage dangling just above heads.
The space was designed by Acme & Co, the studio that gave The Grounds of Alexandria and The Potting Shed their signature garden vibes.

“We wanted to bring the beauty of the outdoors inside to create a full five senses dining experience,” says Chris.
As to be expected, the food menu is equally vibrant with colourful fresh fruits and flowers giving plates their distinctive Flower Child aesthetic.
“Plating is something that we pay attention to, after all you eat with your eyes first,” says Chris.
“While we are always watching what is trending in the contemporary Sydney brunch market, we don’t get carried away with it and sort of do our thing. Sure we like our food to look pretty but we think taste and value are more important.”

Their signature dish is the Flower Child French toast ($19) which has been on the menu since the very beginning.
“It has become somewhat famous in Sydney and we are proud that this simple little take on a French toast has become so recognised.”
The photogenic dish is made from a thick slice of brioche French toast covered with banana mascarpone, sliced banana, dark chocolate crumb, baked pecans, fresh berries, salted toffee and maple syrup.
Equally Instagram-worthy is the fruit salad which reveals a pretty assemblage of seasonal fruits topped with compressed pineapple, pistachios, freeze-dried raspberries, yoghurt sorbet and violets ($17).

There are also more substantial meals on offer, including a 12-hour lamb bowl ($21), Tasmanian crispy skin salmon ($24) and barramundi burger ($19), as well as coffee and cake sourced from The Grounds of Alexandria.
With a food offering this fabulous, you’ll be making excuses to head to the shops.
