92. Embassy XO, Sunshine Beach

Embassy-XO

Embassy XO is a slick, multifaceted operation.

With yum cha by day, an enticing Pan-Asian a-la-carte menu by night, and a very decent wine list and its own wine bar, Embassy XO is a slick, multifaceted operation.

By day the dining room, with its large yellow and red light shades and oriental mural at one end, is light and bright, with windows on one side flung open to the treetops.

The yum cha pork sandwich is a soft bao bun bursting with a slice of succulent pork, cucumber salad and sriracha-tinted mayo. Deep-fried zucchini and corn cakes are crisp with a black vinegar dipping sauce; the steamed prawn wontons are terrific, each topped with a whorl of corn puree; and the steamed duck buns break open to reveal deeply flavoured meat. A platter of condiments is a welcome addition to the table. The staff are engaging and the food arrives at a good pace.

By night entree could be Fraser Island spanner crab congee, mains might be char sui pork loin, Sichuan spiced duck breast with wok-fried broccolini, seared grapes, jasmine tea smoked apple and roasted peanuts. There’s also a vegetarian menu, and banana and chocolate bao or coconut panna cotta for a finale.
