A Tavola, Darlinghurst, Sydney review (2016)

A-Tavola

A Tavola continues to produce rustic, regional Italian dishes that keep the diners coming back for more.

Meaning “to the table” in Italian, the spirit of this long-running Italian eatery is equally as simple. You come, you order, you eat, you enjoy.

Opened by Italian pasta master Eugenio Maiale in 2007, this Darlinghurst favourite has been churning out delicious, elegant pasta dishes ever since. It shows no signs of slowing despite Maiale branching out to a new venue, Flour Eggs Water at the Tramsheds.

Diners return for rustic, regional fare like bucatini all amatriciana, with fresh chillies, or the spaghetti alle cozze, which arrives at the table piled with sweet mussels in the shell.

Other days you might find a fusilli with cherry tomatoes, fat green olives and buffalo mozzarella and good old fashioned small plates like calamari fritti.

The all-Italian wine list, too, is a belter and loved by the restaurant’s loyal Friday lunch crowd.
