The gorgeous Sarah Doyle might not be greeting you at the door these days, but a decade on, the original restaurant from Porteno duo Ben Milgate and Elvis Abrahanowicz is a slick operation of exceptional modern tapas and rockabilly vibes.
Kick off with a flute of strawberry-hued organic cava (a dry Spanish sparkling wine) and settle in for a taste of South America. Soft arepas (corn cakes) are draped with a milky grilled queso fresco cheese and dotted with tangy smoked tomatoes, olives and sweet onion jam. A clever dish of mussels is lightly steamed and punctuated with black bean chilli, marinated palm hearts and sweet red vinegar.
Moving through the consistently top-notch menu, the tapas build from small punchy bites, to generous share plates. Choose from perfectly cooked wagyu skirt steak charred over the open grill and served with a tangy beetroot ‘mince’ sour cream and onions, or the signature 12-hour lamb lifted by spicy harissa, hummus and yoghurt.
And you can’t leave without trying the retro-tastic banana split, a silky banana custard with salted peanuts and caramel.
Must eat dish: the signature 12-hour lamb
