At Nitmiluk Gorge, about half an hour’s drive from Katherine, Cicada Lodge is not the Territory’s most accessible restaurant: you have to stay there to eat there. But plan ahead and you’ll enjoy one of the Top End’s best meals and retire afterwards to your luxurious room in the heart of the bush.
Start with sunset canapés and Champagne next to the pool, then move to the dining room, featuring art by the Jawoyn people who own this land. The chef’s menu offers three nicely proportioned courses – perhaps including beetroot-cured salmon followed by beef fillet on lentils. Keep an eye out on social media for special events hosted by Indigenous chef Mark Olive.
