It’s true. There are great restaurants to be found outside the Sydney CBD. Some are tucked down leafy laneways, others hidden on busy commercial strips.
Clove Lane, for instance, looks like any other neighbourhood bistro. Inside, polished floorboards and the paint job give nothing away. It’s only when you see a menu that you realise there’s something different about this place. Raw kingfish is cloaked in a chilli coconut laksa-style dressing. Stracciatella is dusted in a hemp seed dukkah. Barbecued potatoes are served in their skins, crowned with whipped ricotta and crispy chicken skin.
Chef-owner Emile Avramides brings a fine dining sensibility to the suburbs, showcasing experimental dishes with surprising twists. The sign of success? The locals absolutely love it.
