Bank on fun food, killer drinks and a good time – all before noon – at this new Richmond bar where you won't mind being held up, writes Megan Miller.
Party people – brunch is served.
Richmond’s newest watering hole Fargo & Co has turned a stately 1907 heritage bank into a gorgeous show pony of a bar with 200 seats over two levels and a kitchen hustling some outstanding food.
It plays up the bank theme to fun effect. Name-checking the famous Wells Fargo bank robberies in America, you’ll order signature sips such as the sake-soaked High Interest cocktail from teller bars.
But on Sundays from 11am-2pm, in keeping with the New York tradition, there’s bottomless brunch. It’s high tea meets nightclub, with mostly women dressed to the nines sipping unlimited mimosas and free-flowing prosecco.

And they’re accompanying those bubbles with some brilliant dishes.
The egg and bacon burger redefines the tradie staple, a milk bun also rocking good pickles and barbecue sauce, while mini corn, manchego and chive croquettes dot corn puree with flaked confit salmon hunks. And tuck into the tasty tostadas topped with an oyster mushroom and a petal of roast onion filled with fromage frais for a creamy, earthy two-bite wonder.
But dish of the day – spied whizzing to most tables – is the cornflake chicken, a crispy-crumbed juicy breast on a sweet-skewing, fluffy waffle with honeycomb pieces and a disc of honey and lemon butter to unify the lot.

A Bloody Mary comes with Ketel One vodka, capers and plenty of kick while the Heist might look like a strawberry smoothie but has the added powers of homemade jam, cherry liqueur and gin.
Coffee is from Grinders.
Whether you’re hungover or hungry, Fargo’s Sunday brunch is both restorative and party-starting. And singletons, the women are here – but you might want to keep that in the vault.
