There’s little doubt that Japanese food, big on saltiness and spice, makes the perfect drinking companion, and nowhere honours that fact more than the team at Izakaya Fujiyama.

A simple but well-rounded menu of small bites and bigger snacky plates is enhanced by a whopping sake list, plum sochus, Japanese whiskies and a selection of beer and wine.

Start with freshly shucked oysters followed by satuma aga – spicy deep-fried fish balls – and a plate of karaage chicken served with a delicious house-made kewpie mayo. Then there’s the sticky teriyaki beef ribs served with a signature jalapeno relish – all washed down with your choice of hot and cold sakes and a Orion Japanese beer from the tap.
