From tea-roasted chicken and wok-fried prawns with a jasmine tea sauce to tea cocktails and tea-flavoured desserts, Lucha is a restaurant obsessed with tea.
In fact, it even has its own tea blend grown specifically for the venue. But you don’t have to be a lover of the leafy brew to enjoy what’s on offer at this Australian-Chinese eatery. Tucked down Albert Lane, the contemporary, sleek fit-out invites diners to feast from the huge menu, stretching from dim sum classics and hot pot to popular Chinese favourites and signature dishes.
Begin with the fabulous soupy dumplings xiao long bao, before moving on to the juicy, crispy-skinned tea-smoked half duck, ready to be dunked through a sweet syrup and dipped into a salty sugary powder so good it should be illegal. The cumin-crusted wok-fried lamb is another must-order.
Friendly staff can help recommend one of the many tea-infused cocktails, while diners can be led by tasting notes on the extremely affordable wine list, with most glasses priced around $12.
There’s also a good selection of spirits and non-alcoholic drinks, ranging from loose-leaf and iced teas to float-style ice cream frappes that will win over kids and adults alike.
