The terracotta interiors and jewel-toned furnishings evoke Spain and North Africa, but there’s more to Moorish than tapas and tagines. This Darwin institution has long been loved for its $25 lunch special – three tapas and a glass of sangria – yet it never rests on its laurels, always showcasing local produce in ways that just might surprise a Spaniard. One popular tapas, for example, is the NT jewfish in coconut and lime, cured and served chilled; the local Spanish mackerel comes with fennel, chilli and locally grown grapefruit; and there’s always a weekly special shining the spotlight on local beef or buffalo from Eva Valley Meats just outside Darwin. Other dishes of note are the Berber-spiced kangaroo with tomato jam and grilled local eggplant with a sweet-and-sour dressing. Wines include bottles from Spain, Italy, France, New Zealand, Argentina and California.
