It's the view that brings diners into Rick Shores, but it’s the whole package that sees them return.

Balanced above the sea shore at Burleigh Heads, the waves almost within reaching distance through floor-to-ceiling bi-fold doors, this laidback, Thai-leaning, Asian-fusion eatery is a hotspot for all ages looking for everything from a casual drink and bite to eat with friends to a special birthday or anniversary celebration.

Just as the venue’s decor melds sophistication with an approachable casualness, so does the knowledgeable and well-drilled staff.

They provide advice for diners on the eclectic menu, as well as the diverse drinks list, which transcends signature and classic cocktails to old and new world wines – some biodynamic and organic – alongside champagne from some of France’s biggest houses.

The multi-faceted menu runs from snacks such as soft shell crab on sesame toast, pork katsu toasties and the signature fried Moreton Bay bug roll with lashings of sriracha mayonnaise; to cold options such as sashimi, and proteins cooked over coal. But it’s the meats and curries section that deserves the most attention with a fiery red duck curry with Sichuan caramel and a sour tamarind curry with pumpkin and tofu long-time favourites.

Desserts might include a coming together of Sichuan pepper-infused strawberries with sorrel, white chocolate and meringue; but for the best value, look to the “Feed Me Options” – banquet-style eating for $70 per person at lunch and $80 per person at dinner.
