Even after almost 30 years, this Queensland hospitality stalwart retains its sense of magic.
Though hidden within the dense rainforest of Yandina on the Sunshine Coast, guests could easily mistake the moody, dimly lit restaurant perched on the edge of a lily-topped pond for a tropical Thai paradise.
It’s themed decor delivers a sense of tranquillity and relaxation, echoed by the competent and obliging staff, who know the menus inside and out and work hard to ensure diners are shown a good time.

Though the cuisine is deeply rooted in Thai flavours, there’s nods to other Asian nations, with only the best of local ingredients used.
Go with a group to enjoy one of three banquets, including a vegetarian option, or call on those well-drilled staff to guide choices, which may include a petite Moreton Bay bug entree with a tiny morsel of the crustacean on a betel leaf with peanuts, ginger and a squirt of sweet and sour nam jim.

Or for something more generous, consider the blindingly good smoked salmon-flavoured coconut soup with Thai spice and chilli oil served from a teapot.
Mains may include a deeply satisfying jungle curry with ocean trout, while desserts continue on the Asian path with the possibility of coconut cake with spiced roast pumpkin ice cream or a sticky rice panna cotta with bursts of tropical fruit, a mango sorbet and a coconut crunch.
For a taste of a tropical vacation without the expensive plane flight, Spirit House delivers.
