Follow the hungry hordes to Supernormal and know you’re in for a rocking time.
Whether you’re sticking with classic dishes or up for some new biz, the strike rate is high at Andrew McConnell’s buzzy, playful pan-Asian diner.
Spied whizzing to most tables, those lobster rolls need no introduction.
Nor does the DIY duck bao, still delicious with its twice-cooked leg to shred and apply to steamed buns with plum sauce and vinegar. As for that gloriously gooey peanut butter parfait, it remains a must dessert for any sweet tooth.
Also worthy of your time though is the cracking shredded chicken salad jacked up with plenty of chilli oil and Szechuan heat, and the slow-cooked lamb with oiled spring onion pancakes.
You’ll drink up with cool cocktails and a something-for-everyone wine list.
Service can sometimes be stalled, but this is a busy place (especially when that queue starts building) with a clanging canteen vibe.
While new sister venue Supernormal Canteen in St Kilda takes bookings, the hustle at this Flinders Lane fave is all part of the fast, frenetic fun.
