Soothe your soul at wholesome Mornington Peninsula farmhouse, Tedesca Osteria.
Chef Brigitte Hafner and business partner James Broadway opened the weatherboard eatery in early 2020 before Covid took hold. Hafner’s love of ethically raised, locally grown produce and flame-powered cooking fuels this cosy 36-seater, with your whimsical journey set out on a charming handwritten menu.
You’ll be hit with an ever-changing mix of antipasto, which may include wispy jamon Iberico sheets tumbled with honeylicked persimmon cheeks from the property’s own biodynamic farm, or Hafner’s sister’s brined olives. Seafood, pasta and red meat follow, before ending on something sweet.
Broadway’s Italian wine-importer days are behind an impressive cellar stocked with prime pours from the Peninsula to Piedmont and everywhere in between. A Tedesca wine is even on the cards, with more than one hectare of pinot noir, chardonnay and cabernet franc vines a work in progress.
Then there’s the choice to push the boat out and stay the night at Graceburn cottages next door. Notoriously hard to land a seat but marvellous in all it does: Tedesca lets you live your best farm life, one rustic meal at a time.
