38. Thomas Corner Eatery, Noosaville, Sunshine Coast review

Thomas Corner Eatery

There’s an effortless charm that defines this breezy Sunshine Coast eatery. Overlooking the water at Noosaville, the modern, indoor-outdoor space with polished concrete floors, rattan furniture and comfortable banquette seating topped with soft pillows make this the type of venue you simply want to laze at for hours. Perhaps nibble on the ever-changing mix of charcuterie while sipping on French rose from the keenly curated drinks list, which extends from refreshing cocktails to interesting global wines.

Knowledgeable, switched-on yet easy-going staff helps reinforce the laidback vibes, while diners work their way through an enticing menu dedicated to showcasing the best of local, in-season ingredients.

Take, for example, a daily-changing raw fish starter, possibly tuna topped with diced tomato, shiso and a dusting of togarashi for mild heat, while horseradish-spiked crème fraiche provides some richness.

Chef-owner David Rayner has a clear dexterity for fish cookery, which shines through in dishes including perfectly flaking swordfish garnished with a modern take on the Waldorf salad. Carnivores aren’t left behind either with plates including a beef ragu – bold, complex and hearty with al dente pappardelle, Dutch carrots and curls of kale.

Classic desserts are reconceived to take advantage of local produce, such as with an intensely rich dark chocolate terrine balanced by rhubarb, candied cumquat and gently warmed ginger-infused custard.

Away from the hustle and bustle of Hastings St, Thomas Corner Eatery is perhaps one of the area’s best kept secrets.
