Uccello, Sydney review (2016)

Uccello

Chef Ben Sitton bases his menu around Uccello's huge wood-fired oven but the menu extends well beyond just pizza.

Often described as a hidden gem, Uccello is, in reality, anything but a secret for anyone who knows the CBD. Perched under the Ivy penthouse it’s a raging favourite among corporate high flyers and long-lunching socialites.

The atmosphere is crackling. Pumping house music fuses with stunning Italian Riviera-inspired decor, with a mouth-watering menu from chef Ben Sitton based around the restaurant’s hulking wood-fired oven.

There are pizzas, obviously, but so much more. Things like grilled octopus with chickpea puree and witlof, a Bangalow pork loin served with Tuscan cavolo nero and chestnuts, or a simple plate of grilled Yamba prawns with a sensational garlic butter.
