South Bank has a new resident.
It seems that Matt Moran has a soft spot for the river city, with the chef confirming today that his third venue with Solotel Hospitality Group in Brisbane will open in a number of weeks. Little Big House will set up shop in the burgeoning South Bank precinct, just south of the Brisbane CBD – a venue that is expected to be both ‘a little bit cheeky and a whole lot of fun.’
Little Big House will reside in a former Collins Place Queenslander that has been transplanted to the main drag of Grey Street. It’s a heritage-listed den that was built in 1889 and has been a private residence, the former South Bank Police Station, and played a role in World Expo 88 all within its lifetime. Now it is to be transformed into a lively drinking den fashioned in Sunshine State style – with palm trees, verandas, fairy lights and foliage expected.
“Opening summer 2017, to take you on a journey, immersing you in a sweaty humid, sun-soaked, laid back, old Queenslander house party where everyone is your mate” explains the venue of its intentions, with plenty of live music on the cards.
Queensland vibes will also permeate the food and drink options with quality local seasonal ingredients to be incorporated, and tropical aesthetics emphasised. The food will focus on rotisserie roasted chicken, meats and seafood.
“We, and indeed Brisbane, are excited to see this very talented team bring Collins Place back to life, being such an important part of our local history and a real hero piece for Southpoint,” said developer Tony John of the Anthony John Group.
Solotel Group is equally excited about the impending new festive space. “South Bank is a premier destination – and we’re really excited to bring a fun new experience to the area. This is my third venture in Brisbane with Matt and we can’t wait for the locals to see what’s inside. The building and its history really demanded we create something special,” said Solotel Director Bruce Solomon.
