Named after chef-owner Tristan Rosier’s grandfather, Arthur represents a new generation of modern Australian dining.
Housed in a Victorian-era terrace in Surry Hills, there’s something warm and inviting about the interiors, which feature rich, walnut timbers and olive banquettes, with diners spread across two intimate dining rooms.
A five-course degustation is more manageable than most, with the option to add an oyster here and a cheese tartlet there. Rosier’s commitment to seasonal produce comes through in a pumpkin tart adorned with glossy, glazed butternut balls like a fancy French patisserie.
Meanwhile, meat-and-three-veg looks a little different in the Rosier household, with charcoal-grilled wagyu rump cap balanced with bitter broccoli rabe and sweet cipollini onions. No trip to your grandparents’ is complete without dessert, and the mandarin parfait with a sherbetty sunrise lime jelly will have you lining up for seconds. All the ingredients on the menu are locally sourced, and it’s the same for the drinks. The all-Australian wine list celebrates small, family-run estates with a selection of exceptional vintages available by the glass. And if you love Arthur, then just wait until you meet his better half, Jane.
