Two bowls of gnocchi and a slice of tiramisu the size of your hand for $30? It’s almost unheard of these days. Not at Brisbane’s Gnocchi Gnocchi Brothers.

Newly opened in Paddington, in Brisbane’s inner west, Gnocchi Gnocchi Brothers offers six different flavours of Gnocchi with gluten-free options available. Their specialised gnocchi menu is setting trends in the industry for doing one thing and doing it very well. Watch this space, there will be more of these kinds of places popping up this year.

There are limited tables available, which could be seen as a negative (book in advance if you’re looking to dine in), but Gnocchi Gnocchi Brothers have latched on to the increased demand for takeaway; UberEats being one of their main customers. So take it with you or have it delivered if waiting isn’t your thing (Friday night takeaway never looked so good!).

Paddington local Michael Ramsay, my dining companion, described the gnocchi with wild mushroom and truffle sauce as rich and full of flavour, “with a sauce I’d happily brush my teeth with.” The gnocchi itself is light, fluffy and collapses nicely in the mouth: “like eating a cloud.”

Top tip? get more than one flavour and share. Then you get the best of both worlds and there’s no unwanted FOMO. The potato dumplings are also served with slow cooked bolognese; spicy cherry tomato and black olive; fresh prawn and cherry tomato; slow cooked duck ragu – a true winner; or with classic Genovese-style pesto (our pick). With multiple bars nearby, and a constant flow of people, the energetic atmosphere of Gnocchi Gnocchi Brothers will make you feel like you’re sitting on the footpath in Rome surrounded by tourists and locals eating alfresco! Just bring a bottle of your favourite Italian wine to add the cherry on top!
