With bookings taken for only 20 seats per night, expect to queue for a table at this thriving 80-seat pizzeria.
On the corner of culinary precinct Fish Lane, guests can visit the restaurant’s Bar Brutus opposite for a drink while they wait for their number to be called, before settling in for a relaxed evening.
From the front door to the kitchen, Italian accents abound, delivering authenticity and passion in equal proportions. Keen prices are no doubt largely behind the cosy, brick-lined eatery’s popularity with 48-hour fermented dough, wood-fired pizzas under $28 and pastas less than $33.
Tender octopus, charry from the grill makes for a terrifically light entree when paired with an almond puree, plump chickpeas and crunchy celery; while the prawn linguine demonstrates why Italian classics will never go out of fashion, with sweet tiger prawns tossed through olive oil, chilli, garlic, white wine and perfectly al dente pasta.
The signature pizzas come in 17 varieties, the base thin and crisp, with the Casalinga version just mildly spicy combining hot salami and chilli. Pair it with a glass of affordable Italian wine from the price-savvy list and this is a good, simple, fun night out.
