Be swept up in the Catalonian spirit as Spanish-accented staff welcome guests into this Brisbane stalwart.
The long-time work of Javier Codina and Francois Le Saveant, the restaurant is as warm and inviting as it is elegant, thanks to gorgeous historic, exposed brick walls, lofted ceilings, emerald-hued booths and banquettes, and a sprawling open kitchen which means serious business.
Tapas are the natural go-to here, with more than half the menu dedicated to the filling, sharestyle snacks. Based on seasonal produce, they could run from a creamy cauliflower panna cotta crowned with salty pops of avruga caviar to bring it into the savoury; or a bowl of tender golden beets under a snow of Queso de Cabra cheese, hiding pine nuts and sweet, swollen raisins plump from an olive oil and balsamic dressing.
Diners can choose a tapas banquet where the kitchen decides on six plates for the table for $55 per person, or go it on their own. For dedicated meat-eaters, a Mibrasa charcoal oven and grill from Spain fires up a paddock of steaks including a MB9+ wagyu rump and a 1kg Fiorentina T-bone for two.
Dessert options are nostalgically presented on a tray for guests to see what they’d like to order, or perhaps end with a liqueur from the venue’s Spanish-leaning drinks list.
