It always feels like a party at Pizzateca.

Families and couples unwind on lawns stretching out from a large brick-paved dining patio. Happy music pumps from the sound system and a bustling hive of diners and staff provide lively chatter. This is the Mitolo family’s take on carefree hospitality. Their funky little food shack ringed by towering gum trees and vines is very, very cool.

Pizza is the central focus – thin with a puffed crust in the Neapolitan style, blazing hot from one of two big wood-fired Stefano Ferrara ovens from Naples. Serious flavour combinations are bold without yelling too loudly in Diablo (salami, chilli and honey), Bianco (mushrooms, fior di latte, garlic and truffle oil), and a robust vegan option laden with zucchini, eggplant, capsicum, mushroom and olives.

Don’t miss out on the other outstanding Italian treats to share – arancini balls in a creamy mushroom sauce piqued with truffle oil and parmesan, smoky arrosticini (skewers of salty lamb cooked over charcoal) and nonna Anna Mitolo’s very rich, very creamy tiramisu.

They’ve coined a name for this style – Oztalia, which is also the Mitolo family’s branded range of take-home ingredients, from sugo to olive oil, to a range of red wines. It adds up to supreme value, gutsy flavours and a full belly.
