The low-calorie dinner party menu
Even for non dieters, there are times when you need to give in to the pleading of your heart, and your arteries.
A low-fat feast to suit any discerning diner. In fact, it’s so packed with flavour and texture we’d bet you won’t notice the difference (apart from needing to decrease the notches on your belt).
The Starter
This pretty chilled soup is topped with a tumble of crab, sugar snap peas and mint. Drinks writer Mike Bennie says, “A low-fat feast doesn’t mean you have to scrimp on flavour of matching drinks, or go for wines that have lower alcohol. Go with an approximate of texture matching texture here.”
Drink match: Marlborough sauvignon blanc (try Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc)
The Main
All colour and zing on the plate, a piece of simple fish is transformed by a tomato and lime salsa. It’s an impressive main and you won’t feel like you’re depriving yourself at all.
Drink match: Generous flavoured rose (try Charles Melton Rose of Virginia)
The Dessert
Kiwi fruit isn’t the sole domain of that other Australian masterstroke, the pavlova (sorry New Zealand). This free-form tart is textured and crispy, with a sweet puddle of orange curd on top.
Drink match: Try a sweet amaro (Montenegro on ice with slice of orange)
