Say cheers to this month-long celebration of margaritas, manhattans and mojitos. Words by Avril Treasure.
Australian Cocktail Month is set to return this May, with a strong program of stand-out drinks.
This year, will see 145 venues from across the nation take part, from the capital cities through to regional centres like Geelong, Newcastle and Wollongong.
A $20 ticket will give you access to an exclusive cocktail menu, specially curated for the festival. Expect some seriously impressive sippers made from top shelf spirits like Citadelle Gin, Brix White Rum, Archie Rose and Four Pillars Gin.

Founded by influential hospitality leader Penny Sippe, Australian Cocktail Month aims to support the industry by encouraging people to get off their couch, out of the house and into bars to help rebuild the industry post-pandemic, and to cultivate culture and build community.
“I am so excited for another year of Australian Cocktail Month. Year two and we have more cities and double the bars involved. Encouraging consumers to head out and explore the bars that make our cities so vibrant whilst enjoying amazing cocktails created by some of the country’s best bartenders is our goal.” said Sippe.
In Sydney, you can head to Burrow Bar, Hickson House, Jangling Jack’s, Jolene’s and Maybe Sammy, which was named Best Bar in Australasia at the World’s 50 Bars 2021, amongst others. Some of Melbourne’s offerings include Black Pearl, Union Electric, Caretaker’s Cottage and Bouvardia. In Brisbane, The Gresham, Savile Row, Alba Bar, Iris and Frog’s Hollow Saloon will be offering exclusive cocktails for the month. And in Adelaide, be sure to hit up Maybe Mae, Hains & Co, Alfred’s Bar, Eleven and Extra Chicken Salt.

If drinking isn’t your thing – or if you’re cutting down – don’t worry, Australian Cocktail Month will also feature non-alcoholic cocktails, so you can still have the cocktail experience with beautiful flavours, and not miss any of the fun.
And while innovation and the use of sustainable and native ingredients will be at the core of Australian Cocktail Month, classic cocktails will also be on offer. So whether you prefer your martini shaken not stirred or prefer to try a new cocktail every time, there’ll be a drink to quench everyone’s thirst during Australia Cocktail Month. We’ll cheers to that.
