Bronte is just over a kilometre’s walk south of Bondi. Rocks create a sheltered natural pool beloved by parents with young kids, while an ocean-fed lap pool tucked in beneath the south headland provides one of Sydney’s finest saltwater swim experiences (free entry). A wide grassy park behind the beach has barbecues and picnic tables and gives way to a wooded gully between rows of expensive houses on the opposing hillside
Merewether Ocean Baths opened in 1935 and are the largest ocean baths in the Southern Hemisphere. It’s free entry and popular with locals and tourists alike.

Bogey Hole, Newcastle NSW

This heritage listed swimming hole, created by convicts in the 1800s, is a great vantage point to take in either the glorious South Pacific Ocean or the Newcastle cityscape.

Although it’s not *technically* a natural pool, it makes the list for a couple of reason: eastern Sydney locals love it, the turquoise water sparkles here like nowhere else in the world and the structure (although man made) is based on the foundation of a naturally formed seaside rock pool.

This gorgeous pool was initially built for kids to learn to swim in safely, but was made deeper more than a decade ago so lap swimmers could also enjoy this stunning spot. You’ll find Macmasters Beach Pool on the Bouddi Peninsula, a 1.5-hour drive north of Sydney.

Locals will argue that Wylie’s Baths are as iconic as the Iceberg Pool. For those unfamiliar with this incredible cliffside pool, it is Sydney’s oldest and is located just a few hundred metres south of Coogee Beach.

Protected by shark nets, this tiny harbourside pool has full views of Cockatoo Island and the Sydney city skyline.
Located at the southern end of Collaroy Beach in the Northern Beaches, this ocean rockpool is perfect for swimming laps as it is 50 metres long. It’s also easy to access, which is a bonus.

This instagrammable pool is at the end of a challenging 3 km hike (6 km return) and can only be seen at low tide so check before you trek.

It’s easy to see why this pool is so popular. Avid swimmers will relish the 50m lap pool, while families can let kids splash about in the toddlers’ pool. There’s also facilities like toilets, change rooms and showers a stone’s throw away from the pool.
Yarrangobilly Thermal Springs, Lightning Ridge NSW
These artesian hot springs in Kosciuszko National Park are among the honourable mentions. Yarrangobilly Cave Thermal Pool is a natural formation, while Lightning Ridge Artesian bore baths (pictured) are man made pools that tap into the thermal springs in the area.
