And surprise, surprise, it's made in Byron.

It’s the mixer we never saw coming – fermented tea. Usually favoured by abstainers and those with a passion for gut health, kombucha has change teams, joining forces with gin, vodka and rum in a new line of drinks.

Kombucha brand The Bucha of Byron has expanded their usual range of health tonics to include three alcoholic flavours, gin with lemon myrtle kombucha, vodka with tropical kombucha and spiced rum with ginger kombucha. The trio have been rebranded as The Dirty Bucha of Byron, with the ‘healthy cocktails’ containing just 2.4 g of sugar per 100ml and 4.2% alcohol.

Co-founder Cam MacFarlane said: “The Dirty Bucha opens up this new class of drinking experience. It’s brewed like beer but without the carbs, it tastes most like a cider minus all the sugar and has the benefits of an RTD without being sickly sweet.”

The boozy ‘buchas will be available to purchase from select venues across Australia, including The Beach Hotel and Three Blue Ducks (The Farm) in Byron Bay, Three Blue Ducks and The Oakes Hotel in Sydney and Ponyfish Island in Melbourne.

The Dirty Bucha of Byron also plan to launch the country’s first dedicated kombucha bar at their new brewing headquarters in Byron later this year.
