Cheers to that.
Cape Byron Distillery, the producers behind Brookie’s Dry Gin, has been awarded Sustainable Distillery of the Year at the Icons of Gin Awards 2020 in London.
The Northern Rivers-based distillery is located on a pocket of subtropical rainforest, made up of 35,000 native species, all planted by the Brook family over the last 30 years.
All the botanicals from the gins and spirits are composted directly onsite and fed back to the rainforest and macadamia orchard.
The distillery also uses solar power, and over the next 12 months, they plan to be using it for 90% of their energy needs. They are also on the way to receiving their B-Corp certification, which recognises the highest level of social and environmental performance.

Eddie Brook, co-founder and CEO of Cape Byron Distillery, said: “If we can build a thriving business and produce exceptional spirits whilst having a positive impact on the community and environment, then we can hold our heads up high”.
The distillery’s flagship spirit, Brookie’s Byron Dry Gin, is made from 17 botanicals endemic to the Northern Rivers region, including Byron Sunrise finger limes to aniseed myrtle, cinnamon myrtle, native river mint, native raspberry, and more.
Their Davidson plum-spiked gin, Brookie’s Byron Slow Gin, was also recently awarded a gold medal at the World Gin Awards 2020.
