Gin-gle bells.
There’s a new way to enjoy your annual slice of fruitcake. Sydney distillery Poor Toms has just released a Xmas Negroni made from all the same spices that go into your nan’s pud.
The new ready-to-pour cocktail is made using cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, orange, currants, cloves, ginger and allspice, and let’s not forget the cherries because they’re the best bit. These festive flavours are first fat washed in brown butter, then expertly infused into sweet vermouth. The pudding-spiced vermouth is then mixed with Poor Toms Sydney Dry Gin and Imbroglio Amaro to create a bottled negroni.

The resulting tipple is said to taste of bitter candied fruit balanced by glazed, buttery pain aux raisins. The finish is lengthy, with warming wintery spices reminiscent of a Chrissy cake.
Finally, a gift you can give to your Mum and then drink yourself.
As a special edition release, Poor Toms has just made 5,000 bottles of the stuff and it’s expected to sell out. Xmas Negroni will hit shelves today from poortoms.com. You can also track down a bottle at select independent retailers, including P&V and Cellarbrations in Newtown, NSW and Blackhearts and Sparrows and Mr West in Vic, as well as select BWS and Dan Murphy’s stores.
