It’s Christmas, so you would be forgiven for pulling out that dusty bottle of Baileys Irish Cream and helping yourself to a festive tipple or two.

While we won’t judge you for a sneaky nip, there is one thing you definitely should not do – and that’s pour any leftover Baileys down the sink.

Not only is it a waste of this sacred Christmas spirit, but it can also cause serious blockages to your sink.

Cream liqueurs, such as Baileys, Amarula or Advocaat, have a high-fat content and fall into the category of F.O.G – fats, oils and grease.

The liqueur can stick to the pipes and block the U bend under your sink, preventing liquid from passing through. An overflowing sink is not exactly what you want on Christmas Day (and let’s not get started on the plumber call-out fee).

Cream liqueur should be disposed of like any other fats and oils. Seal it first in a container then dispose of it in the bin.
