Take the missus for a special night out.

If you’re not a fan of the fancy smears and foams of fine dining, we’ve got an 8-course degustation you might just be able to get behind. Next month, The Toxteth hotel in Glebe (aka The Tocky) will launch an 8-course schnitty dego, with the option of paired beers to match.

Alongside the classic chicken fillét, the menu will include a rather high-brow abalone schnitzel with seaweed and radishes, as well as schnitzel-fied veal, turkey, dory, eggplant and kangaroo. Basically, anything that can be coated in breadcrumbs and thrown in the fryer pretty much has been. And that includes dessert, which is a chocolate mousse schnitzel with Anzac crumbs and berries. Fan-cy.

The degustation will be held on Saturday, September 14 at 1pm at The Toxteth hotel, 345 Glebe Point Road, Sydney. Tickets are priced at $50 for food only and $75 with beer pairing. If this sounds like your kind of ‘special night’, head to toxtethhotel.com.au to book your tickets.

The Toxteth schnitzel degustation menu:

  • Abalone schnitzel with seaweed and radishes
  • Eggplant schnitzel, crushed tomato, mozzarella cheese
  • Dory schnitzel salted baby capers, fondant potato and lime mayo
  • Turkey schnitzel with pickled cabbage and apple sauce
  • Veal schnitzel with mushroom and sage butter, mash potato
  • Wasabi and sesame crumbed chicken schnitzel with steamed rice
  • Kangaroo schnitzel, bush tomato compote, lemon myrtle
  • Dessert schnitzel chocolate mousse, Anzac crumbs and berries
