Melbourne-based distiller Starward is bringing back its famed Ginger Beer Cask Single Malt Whisky for a fifth iteration. The craft spirit is matured for 30 months in ginger beer barrels to create an amber-hued tipple that tastes of ginger biscuits in a glass. Expect orange and dark chocolate on the nose, followed by vanilla and fresh pineapple on the palate. It’s rounded out by sweet raisins and fig notes, with a warming mouthfeel of candied ginger. The rare bird reveals notes of warm vanilla, black pepper and toasted rye, followed by a cascade of honey and baked apple. Scottish distillery The Glen Grant has just released its latest expression, Arboralis. The Single Malt Scotch Whisky is double distilled and aged in former bourbon and Spanish sherry oak casks to create a golden-hued tipple, with dried raisin, honeysuckle and lemon citrus on the nose, followed by oak and butterscotch on the palate. Oregon Stout Cask Whiskey is the distillery’s first single malt whiskey to be aged in stout beer casks. The tipple is made from a base of four-year-old Westward whiskey aged for a year in stout barrels sourced from craft breweries across Oregon. The whiskey is said to be rich and robust, with notes of roasted grain, stone fruit, toasted pecans and milk chocolate with a bold, dry finish.
