Science confirms: none of us know how to make a cup of tea

Because science is for important life matters like this, you know?

Making tea sounds so simple – boil water, dunk tea bag, add a splash of dairy. And yet so many of us – apparently – are incapable of making an afternoon cuppa. Who knew?

Scientists knew, of course. Research conducted for British Science Week showed that Brits are clueless when it comes to elevenses. They don’t drew their tea for long enough, they add milk before water (OK, that’s legitimately gross) and leave it too long to cool before drinking. Sheesh.

So what’s the best way to make a cuppa? Scientists agree that you need to let your tea brew for at least two minutes, add milk after water (obviously) and drink your tea within five minutes.

Or you know, do whatever the hell you like. It’s your cup of tea.
