One to replace the espresso martini, that cocktail with a kick. Mocktails using cold-pressed vegetable juices are being found all over Australia now. And while this kind of drinks matching tends to be a night time event, it definitely beats the odd espresso martini when it comes to your health.
Non-alcoholic drinks matching, whether it be juices, teas or mocktails, are becoming almost as sophisticated and elaborate as wine lists themselves. ACME, in Kings Cross, takes it’s loose-leaf tea list (and service) just as seriously as it’s wine, with Tea Craft Tea.
In Brisbane, Urbane matches their degustation dishes with roasted ruby grapefruit and spiced hazelnut spritz, or a mojito made from red grape, lemon, ginger and licorice root, in place of matched wine on request. Attica, in Melbourne, cold-smokes Granny Smith apple juice as a match for whiting, and serves beetroot juice with native pepper alongside kangaroo. Juice is on the bar at Sydney’s Momofuku Seiobo, too.
