The new limited edition tipple trades up the traditional botanicals for red chilli, green Szechuan pepper, black cardamom, finger lime and turmeric to create a spice bazaar in a bottle.

Spirit merchants Four Pillars Gin have teamed up with award-winning Indian distillery Stranger & Sons to release a new aromatic gin inspired by the ancient spice routes.

Described as a Goan spice bazaar in a bottle, Spice Trade Gin is a big, bold and vibrant tipple made from a melting pot of spices, nuts, bark and citrus. Ginthusiasts can expect an intoxicating array of aromas and flavours, from black cardamom to green Szechuan, turmeric and red chilli.

Four Pillars distiller Cameron Mackenzie said: “Firstly, it is unmistakably a gin. There is a huge weight of juniper which we needed because the power of the botanicals needed a solid canvas. Then you get powerful aromas of finger lime, chilli, cardamom and turmeric sourced from the western mountains (ghats) and coast of India.

“The palate is huge. The weight is built from macadamia and cashews, along with sarsaparilla and cassia which hold the spices together. The warming spices of green Szechuan, long pepper, fresh red chilli and black cardamom blend with lemon and anise myrtle to add to the power and depth of the gin.”
