Neat.
Award-winning Tasmanian distillery Lark Distilling Co. has just released a limited-edition single malt whisky finished in casks that once held a celebrated Hunter Valley shiraz.
The partnership between Lark Distilling Co. and Brokenwood Winery in the New South Wales Hunter Valley brings together two of Australia’s ultra-premium drinks brands.

The Rare Cask Brokenwood Graveyard Shiraz is the third single malt in Lark’s Rare Cask series.

The resulting whisky has a sweet and fruity aroma, with hints of mulberries, fresh blood plums, and a heady cocktail of spices, including cardamom, allspice, cinnamon and black pepper.

“Australians are leading the charge in consuming red wine cask matured whisky,” said Lark Head Distiller Chris Thomson. “Our customers [love] how flavourful red wine casks can be, partially an expressive Shiraz such as Brokewood’s. There’s great drinking to be had here with the whisky offering richness, boldness and a hint of tannin leaving behind exciting notes of the Shiraz’s past lives. The notes of red spice and bramble really let those beautiful Hunter Shiraz notes shine through.”

“We absolutely jumped at the opportunity to collaborate with the Lark team,” said Brokenwood General Manager Geoff Krieger. “Both Stu [Hordern, Senior Brokenwood Winemaker] and I agree that a single malt whisky distillation, using a Graveyard Vineyard Shiraz cask is an exciting addition and complementary to the current Brokenwood range.”
If you’re keen to get your hands on a bottle, you’ll want to be quick. There’s only 505 bottles available.
