If we were to look back at the year that was it would be hard to miss the fact that the world went crazy for gin. But just where in particular proved the biggest fans of the drink has just been unveiled, thanks to a new study.

Recent Instagram data has just been analysed to prove which cities are the biggest fans of the juniper juice. The hashtags #gin, #ginlovers and #ginoclock were counted 3600 times around the globe, with the use of each used to devise which 20 cities were big time gin lovers. 

Perhaps unsurprisingly, London took top spot. The English capital pipped to the post Berlin, New York and Barcelona, which trailed just behind. Interestingly, it wasn’t Melbourne or Sydney that claimed top prize for Australia. Rather it was the Gold Coast – Broadbeach was named fifth place globally in the gin-loving stakes. Melbourne took joint 6th place alongside Berlin.
