Someone has created a licorice, blackcurrant and coriander gin and really?

No. 74 Licorice and Blackcurrant Gin

Know someone who would try this?

Three of the most divisive ingredients of all time have come together in a new gin designed for those with discerning (read: disturbing) tastes.

The gin is technically licorice and blackcurrant flavoured, but is also said to have a “coriander-heavy” taste.

The new Yorkshire-made gin will be available from October 14 as part of Aldi’s special buys (although I think it’s safe to say, you won’t need to line up for this one).

Intrigued about the flavours? Apparently, the licorice adds a nice sweetness to the tart blackcurrant. Although, we can’t exactly work out where the coriander comes in.

On the Aldi UK site, the tipple has an average customer rating or 2.2, with more than half of all votes being one-star ratings. But that’s not all. To complicate things, one-quarter of all votes are actually five-star ratings that rave about the gin’s fabulously unconventional flavours.

“It’s a good, dry gin with subtle blackcurrant and liquorice scent/flavour,” one comment read. “It would be a shame if Aldi discontinued this based on poor reviews from customers with unappreciative palates, who seem to like those on-trend over-flavoured gins (yuck!).”

No. 74 Licorice and Blackcurrant Gin is available to purchase from select Aldi stores in NSW, Vic and WA from October 14, 2020 for $44.90 per 700ml bottle.
