This new release is proving cask wine is cool again

Icebergs crew are back with a new goon bag in tow.

Cask wine has never had the best reputation in Australia. Typically the domain of the underage, boxed wine was long thought to have no place in the finer of drinking establishments, but that was until last year. It was then that Icebergs crew threw general perceptions of boxed wine to the wind with the release of its first red-in-a-bag, The Barbera.

During Barbera’s launch Icebergs confirmed that this wouldn’t be their last take on the drink but one of a few collaborations, a promise that they’ve upheld with the launch of a new orange vino. The eagerly awaited drink has been named the 2018 Owen’s Big Orange, Field Blend from the Pyrenees, Victoria.

Big Orange has been made exclusively for The Dolphin, Icebergs Dining Room & Bar, BBPB & Da Orazio by Owen Latta of the much revered Latta Wines. It’s a blend of varietals, and for those who are asking, it is organic.

But Big Orange is just that – big. The orange wine comes in a rather impressive 10-litre box in comparison to the 1-litre size Barbera was available in. Set at the price of $200 it’s considered an investment for any household (particularly natty wine drinkers we are sure) but those hesitant of forking out the amount will be able to indulge in a $9 glass at any of the Icebergs venues.

“It’s amazing to have more than a carton of orange wine in the fridge,” says wine director James Hird of the group’s latest release. “The 10-litre cask has been such an exciting project for us. Organic fruit, beautifully made wine for under ten a glass! It’s so great to offer this quality of the product without having to charge $17 a glass.”

Big Orange is available across all Icebergs venues now.
