The new culinary delicacy at this year's Royal Easter Show is bacon-on-a-stick

Bacon-on-a-stick

Because everything is better on a stick.

A hot new food trend has hit the Sydney Royal Easter Show and – you guessed it – it comes on a stick. No, it’s not lasagne-on-a-stick, chips-on-a-stick or even cheese-on-a-stick (although, that’s pretty tasty, too) it is, in fact, bacon-on-a-stick.

The new culinary delicacy combines the crispy, fatty, deliciousness of bacon with the portability of a stick to create a gravity-defying miracle snack (too far?).

Of course, it’s not just bacon on a stick, that would be too simple. It’s bacon that has been battered and deep-fried, on a stick. Not enough? You can also get it smothered in melted cheese, chilli sauce, or maple aioli – or all three. Just probably don’t follow it up with a ride on the rollercoaster.

If you’re a connoisseur of stick food, there are plenty of other skewered snacks and shishkabobs you can try at this year’s Sydney Royal Easter Show besides the bacon en brochette. Alongside the usual dagwood dogs and toffee apples, visitors can also get their hands on fairy floss flowers, satay skewers, waffle pops, and for the first time, dumplings-on-a-stick. Carnival classics, such as cheese-on-a-stick and chips-on-a-stick are also back for another year.

Bacon Head (aka bacon-on-a-stick) is available to purchase from Burger Head, in The Stables at this year’s Sydney Royal Easter Show.
