For many cultures, it’s hard to beat grandma’s cooking. Which is why the Malaysian Nyonya food at Canberra’s Lanterne Rooms combines the soul of beloved dishes by Amah (grandmother) with the bold flavours of Southeast Asian cuisine.  

Not familiar with Nyonya cuisine? It may be the original fusion food, born out of Chinese immigrants using local Malaysian and Indonesian spices and ingredients to recreate the food they were familiar with. Otherwise known as Peranakan cuisine, it’s developed into a culinary class all its own.
