Struggled with sourdough? There’s a new bread recipe in town and it’s so darn easy that even Millenials can make it. Introducing cloud bread, a quick and easy three-ingredient loaf, famous for its mesmerising texture.
Not technically a new recipe, the super-soft and flossy bun has experienced a resurgence of late due to a viral recipe on TikTok, which has amassed some four million views over the past few weeks.
The TikTok recipe, as shared by user @linqanaaa, calls for three egg whites, 10g of cornstarch and 30g of sugar (optional), which are whipped together until soft peaks form. The fluffy meringue-like mixture is then placed on a baking sheet and baked in the oven for 25 minutes at 150C until golden in colour.
The resulting bread is crispy on the outside with a soft, pillowy texture within. Unlike regular bread, cloud bread has been said to taste quite “eggy”, like a savoury cake or macaron.
TikTok users have already begun adding their own flourishes, including vanilla essence, cream cheese, food colouring, biscuit pieces and chopped nuts.
Cloud bread is designed to be eaten as you would regular bread, so it can be topped with breakfast condiments or stuffed with sandwich fillings.
