Panic-bakers move from eggs and flour to packet mixes

Cake mix.

Well, this just takes the cake.

Panic-buyers have their eyes firmly set on the baking aisle, with packet cakes the surprising new in-demand item.

Woolworths CEO Brad Banducci said: “Two of our highest growth categories this week have been cake mixes and household cleaning products. A lot more kids are baking and parents cleaning as we all spend more time at home.”

With flour one of the hardest ingredients to get your hands on, cake mixes come with flour included, with most requiring just water, eggs and oil.

Despite the increased interest in cake mixes, demand is still sky high for pasta and toilet paper.

“Amazing as it might seem, we are still seeing almost double our normal demand for toilet paper. Just this week, that was over 20.5 million rolls,” Mr Banducci.

With Easter around the corner, customers are advised to only buy what they need, especially of these in-demand categories.
