Woolworths has launched an emergency food hamper, packed with hard-to-find pantry staples, for those unable to leave the house.

The Woolworths Basics Box will contain essentials like flour, sugar, toilet paper, soap, long-life milk, juice, cereal, crackers, breakfast spread (eg. Vegemite, honey, peanut butter), pasta and pasta sauce, tinned tuna, canned soup/vegetables, baked beans, tea, biscuits and muesli bars, among other items.

The box is priced at $80 and Woolworths will not profit from the service.

Woolworths Group CEO Brad Banducci said: “We understand many of our older or more vulnerable customers will be anxious about their food and grocery needs in the weeks ahead.

“Going to the supermarket is a key part of everyday life for many of them, and some will have never even considered ordering groceries online before.

“We’re working at pace to reshape our business, and thanks to the support of the likes of Australia Post and DHL, we will be able to better service those in self-isolation.”

The box is only available to customers unable to leave the house, including the elderly, those with a disability or compromised immune system, and those in mandatory isolation.

Woolworths has partnered with Australia Post and DHL Supply Chain to provide contactless doorstep delivery, which will occur 2-5 business days from ordering. The box can be ordered online or over the phone.

The Woolworths Basics Box is currently available in NSW, Vic, ACT with other states to follow shortly. Head here for more details on the Woolworths Basics Box.
