It's about time Sydney got a slice of the action.
Despite the impressive number of pizzerias in Surry Hills, there’s always room for one more – especially when it comes with its own mozzarella bar.
Called D.O.C, the soon-to-open pizzeria is named after the Italian term “Denominazione di Origine Controllata”, which refers to all that delicious imported stuff that you queue for at the deli. Think buffalo mozzarella from Campania, San Daniele prosciutto from Friuli-Venezia Giulia, stracchino from Lombardia – and there’s no shortage of it on the D.O.C menu.
The Melbourne-based restaurant group is known for its Italian-style pizzas, which are soft and springy in texture, with a crisp, bubbled rim. Combinations are kept simple, as per the Naples way, with offerings like Salciccia, made from pork sausage and crema di broccoli, and a fiery Cornuto, topped with ‘nduja, roasted peppers, and hot cacciatore salame.
But first, antipasti. Choose from the mozzarella degustation which features both Australian and Italian varieties, or build your own board from the dozens of different imported meats and cheese on offer.
The eatery will also pour out a selection of local and Italian wines, including a tight edit of natural drops, and the D.O.C house prosecco, made by three-generation-old winery Cester Camillo in Treviso, Italy.
D.O.C is slated to open at 78 Campbell St, Surry Hills in late February. For more details, head to docgroup.net.
