Tell your mates, the trivia team is getting back together. While you can’t head to the pub anymore, you can still pour out a beer and head online for a night of fact-filled fun.

Booze behemoth Dan Murphy’s has just launched a new online trivia night, hosted by Melbourne-based comedian Ryan Coffey. The weekly event will include various general knowledge questions, including plenty on booze, so be sure to study up the liquor cabinet before logging on. Last week, questions included: ‘According to legend, which ancient civilization was taught to brew beer by a god?’ and ‘With sweet vermouth, Campari, gin and a twist of orange, what am I making?’

Competing teams are invited to connect with teammates via their communication platform of choice – Google Hangouts, Facebook Messenger, Whatsapp etc – while an assigned team captain submits the answers for everyone.

Dan Murphy’s Head of Marketing Utadi Murphy said: “Although all of us have to keep a social distance to our mates, this doesn’t apply online which is why we decided to try to keep the weekly ritual of pub trivia alive and get people together – virtually,”

The inaugural event held last week attracted over 600 teams, with the winning team “We Thought This Was Speed Dating” taking out 6 x $50 Dan Murphy’s vouchers.

“The fact that so many people participated in our first trivia night and for the whole hour shows how Aussies really value trivia nights, and that a bit of competition can help lift the spirit,” Murphy said.

Thursday Night Trivia will run on the Dan Murphy’s Facebook page on Thursdays from 8pm – 9pm.
