Get the sourdough ready, a new premium avocado is set to hit supermarkets this week

Delcados

If there was ever an excuse to make guacamole, this is it.

A new slow-grown Hass avocado is set to hit supermarkets this week, with a richer taste and smoother texture than your average avo.

Grown in Pemberton in Western Australia by Delroys Orchards, Delcados spend twice as much time on the tree as a regular avo, which gives them a deeper, richer flavour and nutty smoothness.

Each avocado is also x-ray checked using infrared technology to help detect bruises, blemishes and sunburn before sale so you’re never surprised with a brown centre. The technology is routinely used by apple growers to detect bruising inside apples, but this is the first time it’s been used for avos.

The locally-grown Delcados will also be available from October to February, which is at a time when most Hass avocados are imported from New Zealand and Chile. “Delcados arrive in-store at least two times faster than imported avocados, meaning there is less time for the fruit to deteriorate and they maintain their delicious taste and quality,” said Delroy Orchards farm manager, Suzie Delroy.

You can purchase Delcados from Coles, Woolworths and ALDI supermarkets, Harris Farm Markets and all good fruit stores in NSW, Vic, SA, WA and Tas. They retail for the same price as a regular Hass avocado.
