In a night of missed-steaks, one contestant goes out in a blaze of glory.
Tonight on Survivor, I mean MasterChef, we’re out of the kitchen and into the garden for a very special immunity challenge.
Melissa introduces today’s master, celebrated chef Scott Pickett from fire-focussed restaurant Matilda 159, who shows the contestants how to cook on nature’s hibachi.
Scott Pickett demonstrates three dishes, king prawns wrapped in lardo, oysters in smoked water and baby barramundi wrapped in paperbark and kombu.
“That’s flavour, in water. That’s amazing!”
Umm lady wait until you find out about cordial. #masterchefau

The top four contestants from last night’s mystery box must create a dish that’s flavoured by fire, with the best dish earning its owner immunity from Sunday night’s elimination.
Pete has an unfair advantage, having already shown his prowess in episode nine when he started a small microwave fire.

Today, Pete is making a seared wagyu with a potato puree made from coal-roasted potatoes with eucalyptus and hazelnuts and grilled lettuce. Unfortunately, he doesn’t quite get the right level of caramelisation on the crust, but apparently, the judges have no problems with his use of gum leaves in the mash.
If I had some beautiful coal roasted potatoes, the last thing I would do is purée them #MasterChefAU

Jess attempts carne asada tacos, but the tortillas turn out dry and her wagyu is undercooked and cut with the grain, rather than against it, but the judges praise her quandong salsa.
Meanwhile, Scott cooks a coffee and citrus-cured and smoked rainbow trout, but removes the crispy skin. Under no circumstances should anyone, ever, remove the crispy skin.
Brent needs to run a master class on how to do this @masterchefau #MasterChefAU https://t.co/e5Z0gqoSSX

There’s a lot of mistakes (and missed steaks) happening tonight – who knew cooking over fire was going to be harder than Kirsten Tibball’s three-dessert challenge?
But there’s one clear winner, and that’s Melissa Leong’s amazing hot pink pantsuit.
Let’s be honest. With that pantsuit, Mel is gonna win the fire challenge tonight#MasterChefAU

Coming in a close second is Depinder, who shows the other contestants – and her husband – how it’s done by casually whipping up tandoori chicken with a mint and coriander chutney, naan bread and smoked lassi. That’s right, she even made a drink.

Sorry Depinder’s husband but you’re off tandoor duties, and you’re now on washing up.
Depinder wins immunity from Sunday night’s elimination. Sorry Pete, Scott and Jess, the tribe has spoken.
