Fish scale lamington, anyone?
In tonight’s episode of MasterChef, The Codfather himself, Josh Niland, joins the MC kitchen for a special masterclass and three-round elimination challenge.
Don’t head to the fridge just yet, this is a masterclass you’ll actually want to watch, and possibly the best one since Josh last came on the show and broke down an entire kingfish from head-to-scale. It was cool, look it up.
Josh (or #fishman if you’re following along on Twitter) demonstrates how to make the most of a Murray cod by creating a three-course meal which includes a KFC-inspired three-piece feed, a roasted rolled Murray cod with cod merguez sausage, and a lamington with fish fat chocolate and fish scale coconut. I wonder what the CWA thinks about that.
Just because you CAN make a fish lamington doesn’t mean you should. #masterchefau

Each contestant is given a Murray cod and must use the same fish for up to three rounds, making it extremely hard, but not impossible, to serve up granita today.
Minoli tells the judges she is going to keep stuffing them with curry until they let her up to the gantry, and she is not lying.
When her Sri Lankan cod curry with coconut sambol is sent back in the first round, she reheats it again for round two, this time cooking the fish properly. Why waste it, right?
Meanwhile, Amir makes fish fingers with a nashi and cucumber salad, he is praised for his excellent cook on the fish but unfortunately, the salad is “irrelevant”, which is kind of unfair as all salads are.
After getting knocked back over the first two rounds, Pete finally delivers a dish that is “Pete” enough, and of course, it’s poached cod with kohlrabi, mushroom juice and blanched cod skin, and the judges love it, flabby skin and all.
What is Pete doing? All of Australia is asking #MasterChefAU

Meanwhile, Dan is having a meltdown, thank goodness Jock comes over to offer some words of wisdom and get him back on track.
Dan: I’m really struggling.
Jock: STOP STRUGGLING
Cool, thanks Jock #MasterChefAU— Kelli W (@ozrealitygal) June 6, 2021
Sadly, Dan doesn’t actually manage to “shake off the funk” despite the emotional support he’s received.
The judges are not very impressed with his Murray cod laksa, it’s not nearly as creative as Minoli’s leftover curry, and that’s why he’s going home.
This entire episode has been a bit fishy if you ask me….. #MasterChefAU
