The contestants lift the lid on their mystery box to discover each box contains four different ingredients.
Jock explains, contestants will need to use all four ingredients in their final dish, but they can swap and trade ingredients with each other first to get what they want.
Sounds simple really, unless you’re Justin. Despite desperately trying to get rid of his broccoli – and fair enough too – he ends up with three vegetables, some grapes, and no proteins.
Meanwhile, Elyse must figure out what to do with her two proteins – King George whiting and lamb chops – which she must use in the same dish. If only there was a solution to both their problems.

Others manage to trade their way to success. Tommy swaps his cauliflower and 10 minutes of time for a bottle of fish sauce and he’s the happiest man on the earth. He sings a little song about his fish sauce and it’s the wholesome content we all need right now.

With contestants forced to use all four ingredients, some of the dishes turn out to be quite “out there”, and the judges are loving it.
Tommy makes a crab and pineapple noodle soup that the judges call one of the best dishes in the competition to date, meanwhile Justin even manages to make broccoli taste nice, with his slow-roasted pumpkin dish with charred leek puree and deep-fried florets.
I like a mystery box where they have to use everything in it. #MasterChefAU

Pete plates up another winning dish, this time around it’s a hibachi grilled pork chop with braised cabbage and a blackberry sauce.
And as for Sabina, she makes… hey! Where’s Sabina?
Can we get a welfare check on Sabina, missing since the opening credits. Did someone accidentally trade her in the barter period? #MasterChefAU

The judges declare the top four dishes to be Pete, Tommy, Depinder and Justin, who will go on to compete for immunity from Sunday night’s elimination challenge and become the first contestant to crack the top ten.
