Even if that means making your cat’s favourite dish.
Today, the eight remaining contestants will need to create a dish inspired by their family. They will have 75 minutes on the clock and full access to a pantry of Continental recipe bases and Old El Paso kits, presumably.
The judges play the contestants an emotional video reel featuring messages from their family members and brb back, we need to call our mum and tell her how much we love her tuna casserole.
Tonight’s special ingredient to cook with is….tears. #MasterChefAU

There are heartfelt messages from children and parents alike, and then there’s Scott’s cat Kingsley, who hisses angrily and lunges at the camera. Kingsley has clearly missed his human servant and it’s a touching moment. Sort of.
Sabina: I’m cooking a seafood stew inspired by the fish our family catches together
Minoli: I’m cooking the dish that my mum made for me after I got my sense of taste back post-chemo
Scott: I’m cooking for my cat#masterchefau— Katherine Allan (@kathrillhouse) June 23, 2021
Kishwar cooks from the heart, creating a winter melon and prawn soup and sardine curry, inspired by her mother.
‘Fish queen’ Sabina delivers a fisherman stew, which she has seasoned perfectly with her own tears. The judges call it her best dish in the competition so far.
Inspired by one of his family’s favourite foods, Pete makes a PB&J dessert featuring peanut butter bread, burnt toast ice cream and blueberry sauce, and we want Pete to pack our work lunches from now on, please and thank you.
Everyone on #masterchefau: I’m making a dish my <insert relative> made when I was a kid.
Pete: One wet wintry day in the kitchen of a beach house overlooking the Pacific, my wife had burnt toast for breakfast. I’m cooking a dish based on my kid’s description of that smell.

He also shares a clever hack for a microwave mug cake made from peanut butter, egg and sugar, and finally, a dish we can actually make at home.
Scott delivers beef braciole, it’s totally fabulous but we still get the feeling that Kingsley would probably push it off a counter and let it smash on the floor. We would like to know what Kingsley thinks about it. Bring us more Kingsley, please.
In other news, I’m now following Scott’s cat on Instagram #MasterChefAU

As to be expected, everyone makes their family proud, except perhaps Elise, who brings great shame with her dry cannoli. We would definitely still eat it though.
The judges declare Kishwar and Sabina to be the two winners from today’s challenge, and they will go through to a special immunity cook tomorrow night.
